DescriptionRespiratory Therapist - Registered Position Summary
Examines and treats patients with breathing-related conditions performs diagnostic testing and collaborates with physicians to develop and implement treatment plans. Provides patient education on therapies and medication use; performs physiotherapy and related treatments. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.
Essential Functions
- Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer; may perform bedside PFTs EKGs and tobacco-cessation education as ordered.
- Delivers ordered respiratory therapies; monitors records and communicates patient condition and response to treatment.
- Responds to codes and emergent calls; assesses patient condition and provides appropriate interventions.
- Evaluates and contributes to respiratory care policies and procedures based on outcomes research and best practices.
- Educates patients and families on illness treatments device use and community resources.
- Monitors receives stocks and distributes respiratory supplies and medical gas cylinders; maintains storage areas and equipment readiness.
- Disassembles cleans sterilizes performs preventive maintenance and calibrates respiratory equipment.
- Performs all responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.
- Participates in performance improvement and required education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Populations Served: Neonate Infant Early Childhood Late Childhood Adolescent Young Adult Middle Adult Older Adult. Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic Clinical Insurance Financial Complete Medical Record. Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may be present. Physical Requirements (typical): Frequent standing walking lifting/moving patients reaching kneeling repetitive hand/arm movements and keyboard entry; occasional sitting squatting running; rare climbing. Possible exposure to biological and chemical hazards (blood/body fluids; gases/vapors/fumes; hazardous medications); latex exposure may occur.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Education: Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy required. License: Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in state of practice. Certifications: BCLS required; ACLS PALS and NRP preferred. Skills: Critical thinking decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments. Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems. Effective English communication (read write speak and understand). Ability to successfully complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
