ICCSD Unified Sports Building Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to organize and coordinate all aspects of the Unified Sports Program within the building including the duties of any coaches or volunteers as well as possibly performing coaching duties for one or more designated teams. A primary focus is the establishment and maintenance of a positive and respectful learning environment and working relationship with students staff administration parents/guardians and community members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- NFHS Certification-Coaching Unified Sports & Administering Interscholastic Unified Sports *may work towards certification
- CPR & First Aid Certification-Red Cross
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
- Coaching experience preferred
- Experience working with middle school and/or high school youth
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of District Activities
JOB GOALS:To create a powerful community of acceptance and inclusion through sport. To join people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same teams.To provide skills that will engage all levels of athletes and promote physical activity to enhance student learning promote the overall efficiency of the building system and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- communicate regularly with Unified coaches and stakeholders
- encompass program development and management
- partnership creation and cultivation
- event planning and execution
- participant recruitment and engagement
- volunteer coordination
- budget management
- advocacy for disability rights and inclusion
- knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Iowa City Board of Education
- form positive professional relationships with all stakeholders
- possess an enthusiastic attitude and the ability to understand unified sports
- cooperatively work with other programs
- support the health and well-being of student athletes
- other duties as assigned
