Job Description Summary:
Applicants for this intern role in the Materials Science group will be expected to work in a multi-disciplinary team of chemists materials scientists engineers and technicians. The work will focus on the development of materials for harsh space environments and may range from literature review and design of experiments to materials fabrication and characterization. Thus the role requires good organizational skills and learning on the job. Students may contribute to projects by being trained to run and analyze experiments on a variety of analytical equipment (e.g. DSC TMA DMA TGA) as well as and other instruments and tools (e.g. thermal chambers vibration tables plasma chambers). They will be expected to follow established SOPs and use the data to come to an answer and propose solutions which they may then be asked to present to stakeholders. Additionally they may be asked to collaborate on the development of novel diagnostic tests or even on the design of novel test equipment.Job Description:
Design develop and enhancement engineering solutions for challenging problems; particular emphasis on developing materials for space as well as material characterization methods and platforms for space materials.
Implement test perform analysis and provide documentation support. This may include designing and writing comprehensive test-plans
Generate and present test reports including plots tables evaluation criteria and conclusions from data collected and analyzed throughout the test process.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Enrolled in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program required.
There is flexibility regarding hours and program duration based on applicants school schedule and availability.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Prior experience in performing literature review and assessing scientific literature.
Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
Background in materials development materials characterization or both. Please note experience with analytical equipment.
Strong computer skills including MS Word PowerPoint and Excel.

$15.00 - $225.00Our salary ranges are determined by role level and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills experience and relevant education or training. Union ranges will be in compliance with the collective bargaining agreements approved rates by location and role.
