This position requires on-site work in Wilmington NC with up to 10% travel to Concord or vendor sites. Local candidates are preferred.
Tekberry is looking for a Mechanical Engineer II to work on-site with our client a leading global manufacturing this role you will provide mechanical engineering support for the construction installation debug and startup of manufacturing equipment and automated systems. You will play a key role in ensuring safety quality and efficiency through hands-on problem-solving and leadership of internal and contract resources. Responsibilities: Provide mechanical engineering and project support for installation and startup of equipment and automated systems from design through turnover to operations.
Develop and execute project plans schedules and timelines to achieve goals without compromising safety intellectual property or quality.
Lead internal technicians maintenance staff and external contractors through equipment installation testing and commissioning activities.
Conduct hands-on troubleshooting of equipment including replacement of defective components and process adjustments.
Re-design mechanical components as needed to resolve equipment interferences improve performance and reduce installation cost.
Interface with system integrators and machine builders to deliver fully integrated process equipment systems that meet technical and performance standards.
Develop and implement installation checklists drawings part lists and specifications ensuring documentation is accurate and complete.
Support the procurement and expediting of materials required for new or modified equipment installations.
Assess existing equipment for condition fit and function compatibility with new installation requirements.
Ensure job site safety and proactive hazard prevention throughout all project phases.
Provide training and guidance to technicians and trades on installation and maintenance procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Mechanical Process IT and Electrical Engineering) to optimize design integration and system functionality.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment working with production equipment.
Proficient with hand tools measurement devices and alignment instruments used in mechanical installation and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of mechanical drive systems electrical and pneumatic actuators and process variables (flow temperature rate pressure level).
Skilled in interpreting mechanical drawings P&IDs and schematics for troubleshooting and design adjustments.
Experience in process piping system design and plant layout coordination.
Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
Strong focus on safety quality and continuous improvement.
Excellent communication leadership and collaboration skills.
Preferred: Experience leading installation projects or supervising technical teams.
Familiarity with AutoCAD SolidWorks or other mechanical design software.
Demonstrated experience improving equipment reliability and installation efficiency.
Strong documentation skills including redlining and updating engineering drawings.
Self-starter with a results-oriented mindset and ability to work effectively in team-based environments.
