POSITION SUMMARY
The SPR/Utilities Operations Apprentice is a year-long program that includes a comprehensive training program at SPR and the Allen Water Treatment Plant. Apprentices will spend 6 months at SPR and 6 months at Utilities.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to:Operations Supervisor
Direct Reports:None
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Apprentices are expected to arrive for their shift ready to learn and communicate any schedule conflicts with their assigned supervisor in advance when possible. Apprentices will learn under the mentorship of licensed operators and will help keep track of the progress of their learning objectives as defined in the training calendar and apprenticeship program.

Technical Expertise Plant Operations: Basic knowledge of principles of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations discipline.
- Readily learns and adopts new skills and technologies that can improve wastewater treatment plant operations activities.
- Understands biological chemical and mechanical treatment technologies their principles of operation and application in specific tasks or processes.
- Possesses troubleshooting competency to evaluate diagnose and repair operational issues throughout the plant site.
Nimble Learning: Actively learning through experimentation when tackling new problems using both successes and failures as learning fodder.
- Self-directed learner; readily applies knowledge gained from experience to new situations.
- Willing to accept and incorporate feedback; actively seeks out feedback from others where appropriate.
- Follows instructions and learns from mistakes.
Problem Solving: Generating evaluating and implementing solutions to operational problems.
- Applies known solutions to existing and novel problems; demonstrates situational awareness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education License Certification and Work Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Clean Driving Record
- By the 6 month mark apprentices are required to achieve either a D Water or D Wastewater license in order to continue their apprenticeship.
An equivalent combination of education training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires extensive sitting walking carrying lifting kneeling bending reaching and squatting. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Major activities are performed on level slippery sloping unstable and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions. May be exposed to extreme cold heat heights temperature swings constant noise mechanical and electrical hazards fumes odors & chemicals. Work is performed in an office outside and in an industrial environment.
ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
This position offers one advancement opportunity at the 6 month mark where achieving a D certificate will trigger an increase in pay.
HOURLY RATE
$17.47 - $26.21/Hourly Rate
Anticipated Starting Rate: $22.00/hour
