General Accountant
Compensation: $70000 - $75000
Location: Brampton ON
Position Overview:
The General Accountant will report to the Financial Controller and will play a key role in managing Accounts Receivable Payroll and other General Accounting responsibilities. This position requires a detail-oriented self-motivated professional with a strong background in Canadian GAAP and experience in ERP systems ideally within a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
Daily/Weekly Activities:
- Update cashbook and post banking transactions in the CMS system.
- Generate weekly Aging Reports and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Accurately prepare and submit bi-weekly payroll using Ceridian.
- Maintain employee records by adding new hires and updating changes in Ceridian.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare payroll-related reports.
- Post journal entries into the CMS system.
- Review accounts payable cheque runs and wire payments for accuracy.
- Prepare timely and accurate bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Post accounts receivable invoices and customer payments in CMS.
- Support the Financial Controller with account analysis and ad hoc queries.
Month-End Activities:
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries promptly.
- Reconcile inter-company accounts with precision.
- Prepare accrual and prepayment schedules and post related entries.
- Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements.
Requirements
To succeed in this role the ideal candidate should:
- Possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Be a self-starter with high energy and initiative.
- Have a thorough understanding of Canadian GAAP.
- Bring a minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience preferably in the manufacturing sector.
- Have experience working with ERP systems; CMS experience is an asset.
- Be pursuing or have completed an accounting designation (e.g. CPA).
