Job Summary

The Manager is a Registered Nurse who orchestrates and influences the work of others in their department to enhance the shared mission vision and core values of Frederick Health. The Manager strives to create a culture of quality safety and customer service philosophy in care delivery through advocacy leadership shared vision knowledge of clinical and business practices and accountability. The collaborate with others to provide a multidisciplinary approach to improving care for their patients and their families. The managers adhere to the Frederick Health Compliance program including following all regulatory requirements and the Frederick Health Standards of Behavior.

Example of Essential Functions:

  • Assures that standards of care and clinical practices are established consistent with national regional and Frederick Health standards and are routinely updated and consistently practiced.
  • Collaborates with team members to meet or exceed performance targets for patient satisfaction patient safety initiatives and other outcome measures according to evidence-based practices and best practice models.
  • Collaborates with the nursing staff and healthcare team members on the development review and revision of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Monitors compliance with and enforces clinical policies and procedures.
  • Addresses any patient care issues complaints or grievances through any channels as appropriate.
  • Promotes accountability for nursing practice.
  • Promotes positive working relationships among the health care team.
  • Promotes care that satisfies the health care consumer.
  • Provides for adequate staffing for quality patient care through interviewing hiring coaching counseling mentoring and evaluating.
  • Collaborates with Director in the development of a staffing plan to provide patient care 24 hours/day seven days/week.
  • Ensures a balanced staffing schedule is developed to meet the department needs.
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Specialist to assure staff orientation development and education to meet the needs of the patient population and the department.
  • Works with staff to create an environment conducive to collaboration teamwork and adherence to the Standards of Behavior.
  • Engages in department efforts to promote retention of staff and employee satisfaction.
  • In collaboration with the Director and Human Resources disciplines and when necessary terminates department staff.
  • Promotes respect for nurses rights and responsibilities.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Promotes education research and appropriate technologies.
  • Promotes adequate compensation commensurate with responsibility education and experience.
  • Participates in the development of staffing and departmental budgets.
  • Monitors productivity and adjusts staffing to accommodate for any variances.
  • Monitors budget activity and identifies any discrepancies.
  • Provides justification for any variances and a corrective action plan if appropriate to the scenario.
  • Promotes stewardship of allocated resources.
  • Promotes nursing control of nursing practice and oversight of the practice environment.
  • Identifies and communicates vision and values and asks for the involvement of the work group to achieve the vision of the department and organization.
  • Challenges staff to take greater ownership for their work towards meeting patient outcomes.
  • Challenges staff to be innovative and creative.
  • Demonstrates concern for the needs of the staff.
  • Provides for the monitoring of indicators to ensure that processes are in compliance with the evidence-based standards and opportunities for improvement are identified and acted on to meet or exceed targets.
  • Participates in performance improvement projects and committees to enhance patient care and processes across the organization.
  • Assures that staff is actively involved in evidence-based research for quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Fosters peer review process.
  • Empowers staff to participate in decision making process.
  • Assist staff in their self-evaluation and personal goal setting activities.
  • Completes education appropriate for their own developmental needs as well as hospital and department mandatory education.
  • Searches for opportunities to expand skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Training and Experience Required:

  • Bachelors degree in nursing required. Masters degree with a focus in nursing recommended. Nursing administration and applicable specialty certification recommended.
  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland or Compact state.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Clinical nursing experience required. Previous supervisory managerial or leadership experience strongly preferred.

Patient Contact

Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:

  • Neonate (0 thru 30 days)
  • Infant (31 thru 12 months)
  • Child (13 months thru 12 years)
  • X Adolescent (13 years thru 17 years)
  • X Adult (18 years thru 65 years)
  • X Geriatric (66 years)

Physical Demands:

Medium-Heavy Work Lifting up to 75 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).

Ergonomic Risk Factors:

Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated the speed of the movement the required force and muscles involved.

Forceful Exertion: The amount of physical effort required to perform a task (such as moving patients) or to maintain control of equipment or tools. The amount of force depends on the type of grip the weight of an object or person body posture the type of activity and the duration of the task.

Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that participate in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching twisting bending kneeling squatting working overhead with your hands or arms or holding fixed positions.

Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves tendons and blood vessels. For example using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

  1. Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk: Category A WILL have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Pay is based on experience skills and education. If position is part-time salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid if applicable.

Pay Range: Annual salary $91832.00- $142667.20
