Safety Environmental and Health Coordinator Purpose: The Safety Environmental and Health Coordinator (SEHC) will support the companys compliance and continuous improvement initiatives in workplace safety environmental and occupational health management. This role coordinates programs maintains compliance records and assists with audits to ensure alignment with OSHA CDC EPA ISO standards and VPP best practices. The SEHC plays a critical role in promoting a proactive safety culture and supporting sustainable environmental stewardship. Job Description: - Maintain and update departmental documentation procedures and policies to comply with OSHA 1910/1915 and other regulatory standards.
- Support incident investigations root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action tracking.
- Provide administrative and technical support during OSHA DEQ NAVSEA and customer audits.
- Collects and submits environmental performance and emissions data.
- Collaborates with shipyard and corporate management on department initiatives.
- Generates statistical reports newsletters and other related information to management.
- Coordinate workplace health initiatives consistent with OSHA guidelines including illness prevention hygiene programs and pandemic response planning.
- Support compliance with EPA regulations regarding hazardous waste stormwater and air emissions.
- Assist with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 program support including audits document control corrective actions and system initiatives.
- Performs general administrative record-keeping and reporting functions in support of departmental programs.
- Provides support for safety events drills and recognition programs.
- Keeping up to date with new legislation and health and safety standards
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: - Bachelors degree in safety engineering industrial hygiene or environmental science or comparable field of study; or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years industrial operations experience / Maritime trade experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Maritime rules and regulations: OSHA NFPA NIOSH ANSI EPA and State and Local regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Company Safety and Environmental Policies Federal safety regulations and job safety analysis required.
- Must have and maintain a current valid drivers license with a record that allows the operation of company vehicles.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word Excel PowerPoint)
- Must have knowledge of:
- Applicable Federal State and Local Environmental/Health/Safety Regulations (EPA).
- Safe operational procedures of tools and machinery associated with the work performed.
- Techniques used to recognize Health/Safety Hazards and Environmental risks.
- Working with and management of hazardous materials and waste.
- Presentation techniques for Health/Safety Training.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a understandable manner.
- Ability to work independently to complete responsibilities
Desired Qualifications: - Knowledge of NAVSEA/MSC/USCG Standard Items and GTRs.
- Experience with behavior-based safety processes.
Travel Requirements: - Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to sit stand walk bend squat climb reach push pull stoop crawl kneel balance lift and carry tools or equipment as needed.
- Work may involve extended periods in both sedentary (office) and physically active (industrial) environments including standing or walking up to 30% of the time.
- Must be able to tolerate noise heat dust and other environmental conditions typical of a shipyard or industrial setting.
- Requires specific vision capabilities such as close vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent use of a computer and regular movement throughout shipyard areas and aboard vessels.
- Must be able to safely navigate stairs ladders and tight spaces as part of regular job duties.
