Job Summary
The Digital Content Lead leads the ongoing development and day-to-day management of the Faculty of Medicines (FoM) internal community platform MedNet. This role is responsible for ensuring the platform is user-friendly accessible and aligned with the Facultys strategic priorities and brand. The Digital Content Lead will lead the platforms redesign content strategy and governance working closely with key Faculty partners and content owners. Through regular audits training of content owners and continuous improvement the role supports the effective use adoption and evolution of MedNet as a key tool for engagement alignment and connection across the Faculty.

The Facultycomprised of approximately 2700 administrative support technical/research and management and professional staff as well approximately 650 full-time academic and over 12000 clinical faculty membersis composed of 19 academic basic science and/or clinical departments 3 schools and 26 research centres and institutes. Together with its University and Health Authority partners the Faculty delivers innovative programs and conducts research in the areas of health and life sciences. Faculty staff and trainees are located at university campuses clinical academic campuses in hospital settings and other regionally based centres across the province.

The UBC Vancouver Campus is located on the traditional ancestral and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəyəm (Musqueam) people. The City of Vancouver is located on Musqueam Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations territory.

This position reports to the Organizational Development Manager Faculty Affairs and works collaboratively with all members of the team. The Faculty Affairs team provides centralized support guidance and advice for day-to-day human resource activities and leads initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness and the development of staff and faculty within the Faculty of Medicine.

The incumbent will work closely with members of the Office of Creative and Communications and the Digital Solutions team to successfully meet the mandate of this position. They will also provide guidance and support to content owners across the Faculty to maintain high-quality accurate and accessible addition the role requires ongoing engagement with faculty staff learners and other members of the Faculty of Medicine community to understand user needs and ensure MedNet remains relevant usable and responsive.

Work Performed

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the Faculty of Medicines internal community platform (MedNet) ensuring high-quality up-to-date content strong usability and reliable platform functionality aligned with Faculty values brand and strategic priorities.

  • Oversee and implement the platforms redesign in alignment with user experience (UX) accessibility and plain language best practices incorporating change management strategies such as communications planning community engagement and training.

  • Plan and oversee content audits in collaboration with content owners conducting spot checks to verify relevance tone usability and compliance with brand and governance standards.

  • Maintain a high-level view of how MedNet content aligns with other Faculty and institutional websites to ensure the platform contains relevant information tailored to the platforms key audiences.

  • Lead the development and implementation of governance guidelines including defining roles and responsibilities workflows and content lifecycle processes.

  • Develop and maintain content guidelines including voice and tone standards tailored for internal audiences across a diverse academic and administrative environment.

  • Provide ongoing support and training to content owners and contributors including onboarding platform navigation and best practices for writing and maintaining web content.

  • Provide guidance and oversee the technical implementation of significant web enhancements and changes advising content owners on optimal design layout and formatting to improve usability and alignment with best practices and where appropriate directly implements complex updates to ensure timely and effective execution.

  • Act as a resource for administrative units in structuring content for internal audiences that aligns with Faculty-wide standards and supports organizational goals and advise academic units on developing unit-specific internal content that complements Faculty-level information on the platform.

  • Collaborate with internal units (e.g. Faculty of Medicines Office of Creative and Communications) to ensure alignment with brand guidelines and communications best practices.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot platform-related issues in coordination with the Faculty of Medicines Digital Solutions team ensuring continuous performance and user accessibility.

  • Track and report on ongoing maintenance user feedback analytics and adoption metrics to inform continuous improvement of content navigation and usability.

  • Promote and steward user-centered design principles and content quality across the platform through training guidance and governance.

  • Supports the use of the platform as a key tool to advance engagement enable strategic alignment and foster a connected Faculty culture.

  • Ensure the security and integrity of the MedNet platform by coordinating with Digital Solutions Information Security team on security protocols conducting regular audits and promoting security awareness among content owners and users.

  • Performs other related duties as required.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
The incumbent acts collaboratively and within broad guidelines. Must be able to work independently and exercise extensive judgement and decision-making in managing proactive and reactive web and digital communication needs and issues. The position represents the Faculty of Medicine as a whole and is required to exercise professional judgment collegiality and initiative while undertaking all responsibilities and developing relationships and partnerships.

Incorrect decisions or judgment will directly affect UBCs reputation with students faculty staff partners and the broader community. Inappropriate actions errors in performance or indiscretions in judgment can negatively impact the Faculty of Medicines working relationships and credibility and jeopardize the units reputation.

Supervision Received
The individual in this position will be expected to work independently under the direction and supervision of the Organizational Development Manager.

Supervision Given
May oversee and coordinate the work of cross-functional project team members who do not report directly to this position as required by specific work tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum five years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications Digital Media Information Studies User Experience Design or a related field.

  • Minimum of five years of related experience in an internal communication content strategy or web design role. Proven experience in developing and managing high traffic websites or intranets preferably within a large complex organization. Experience applying principles of universal design and/or design thinking to create inclusive user-centered digital experiences. Demonstrated experience in brand management. Experience working in large complex organizations or post secondary institutions is preferred.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a focus on clarity plain language tone and audience engagement.

  • Strong oral communication facilitation presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong understanding of user experience (UX) and information architecture principles and practices

  • Proven experience managing and maintaining WordPress websites.

  • Familiarity with basic HTML/CSS for front-end adjustments within WordPress environments.

  • Familiarity with change management principles and the ability to support transitions through clear strategic communication.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently lead initiatives and to work effectively in a diverse team environment.

  • Strong project management planning and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and continually upgrade skills.

  • Knowledge of web analytics including experience with Google Analytics.

  • Working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization techniques.

  • Knowledge of responsive design and mobile web technologies.

  • Knowledge of web analytics including experience with Google Analytics.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG) and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive digital content
