We are seeking an experienced Director of Software Development to lead SageMakers next generation distributed training systems for AI models. The ideal candidate will drive innovation in model customization capabilities focusing on advanced techniques such as reinforcement learning and model distillation to enhance our AI offerings. You will spearhead the development of optimized training engines that create significant price-performance advantages for our customers enabling them to train larger models more efficiently. This role requires strategic vision to build and scale training applications and tools that simplify the AI development process while maintaining Amazons high standards for performance and reliability.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
- 10 years of software engineering experience
- 5 years managing managers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with tech and non-tech customers
- Understanding of software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards build processes testing and operations
- Experience building tier-1 ML/AI services
- Experience managing or working with machine learning scientists or applied data scientists
- Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests recommend alternative technical and business approaches and lead engineering efforts to meet timelines with optimal solutions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $264100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $350000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
