Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed in-house Town and Country Planning team working on across a diverse portfolio of major capital and infrastructure projects.

You will play a key role in ensuring the effective use of permitted development rights and in securing planning consents in line with Town and Country Planning legislation.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver small to medium planning consents for capital programmes managing all related activities.
Work collaboratively within project teams to optimise permitted development opportunities.
Advise and support on all consents required for construction projects.
Contribute to policy regulatory and strategic advice affecting consents delivery.
Develop and implement planning and consultation strategies for projects.
Partner with the Capital Delivery Communications team on consultation and engagement activities.
Review and assure planning-related deliverables to ensure high quality standards.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local planning authorities and key stakeholders.
Support the Special Projects Consenting Lead on DCOs where required.

Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of current and emerging planning legislation ideally within the water or utilities sector.
Experience within a corporate or regulated environment.
Knowledge of environmental initiatives such as biodiversity net gain.
Excellent analytical communication and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Detailed understanding of the Town and Country Planning Act General Permitted Development Order Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations and Environment Act.
RTPI-accredited MSc (or equivalent) in Town and Country Planning.
Member or working towards full membership of the RTPI.
