The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

The DSS McMillan Library located at DSS headquarters at 4 World Trade Center serves and supports agency staff at all levels in all five boroughs. Library holdings include a growing print collection eBooks and subject files.

The NYC DSS McMillan Library is recruiting for one (1) Department Librarian IV. The Librarian will report to the DSS Library Director with duties that include but are not limited to:

-Provide support to overall functionality of the library with emphasis on day-to-day operations.

-Select books journals and other printed material needed to maintain an adequate collection of standard and current research literature related to the research needs of the administration.

-Catalog library materials and maintain subject file finding guides.

-Create presentations in library literacy research support and specialized library services to agency employees.

-Prepare and review reports.

- Distribute collect and ensure proper documentation of circulating materials to and from patrons.

-Assume the responsibilities of the Library Director when the director is unavailable.

Salary Range: $71432.00 - $ 82147.00

Work Location: 4 WTC

Hours/Schedule: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Qualifications :

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in library science.
Special Note
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have in addition to meeting the minimum requirements at least one year of full-time experience as a professional librarian utilizing computers and online resources.
Special Note
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have in addition to meeting the minimum requirements at least two years of full-time experience as a professional librarian utilizing computers and online resources.
Special Note
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have in addition to meeting the minimum requirements at least three years of full-time experience as a professional librarian utilizing computers and online resources.
