Job Summary
Seasonal Ranger Camp Counselor supports the Ranger Adventure and Junior Ranger Adventure camp programs to ensure a safe and positive experience for camp participants and the public.
What Youll Do
- Assist in facilitating recreational activities including archery fishing paddling teambuilding and geocaching.
- Oversee pick-up and drop-off of camp participants and maintain a variety of records.
- Perform routine maintenance on camp equipment including kayaks fishing poles and archery equipment.
- Operate District vehicles as needed including work trucks ATVs and boats.
- Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits that supports a clean organized and hazard-free environment.
- Deliver excellent customer service and support a positive team-oriented workplace.
What Youll Need
- 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing.
- Must have and maintain CPR AED and First Aid certification or obtain upon hire.
- Must have and maintain Illinois Mandated Reporter certification or obtain upon hire.
- Previous camp counselor experience preferred.
- Experience with outdoor recreational activities including hiking archery fishing and paddling preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable interacting with youth of varying age ranges.
Schedule & Pay
- Schedule during camp is generally Monday Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm; however some occasional evenings and weekends may be needed. Hours vary after camp season ends.
- Expected start date is late May 2026
- $17.50 per hour
- Safety boot reimbursement provided
Work Setting
- Position is based out of two locations: either Blackwell Forest Preserve in West Chicago IL or Churchill Woods Forest Preserve in Lombard IL
- Requires working outdoors and indoors in office and shop environments. Exposure to all weather conditions campfires insects and other wildlife. Work surfaces may include downed branches or uneven terrain. Use of motor vehicles.
