As a Principal Electrical Engineer you will serve as a technical leader and expert in designing developing and integrating complex electrical systems for Medtronics Surgical Hardware products within the Released Product Engineering group located in Lafayette CO. This role provides a unique opportunity to work on challenging projects mentor team members and contribute directly to life-changing technologies. You will work cross-functionally with teams in mechanical engineering software development quality assurance and manufacturing to drive projects from concept through commercialization with a focus on technology development. Your work will help Medtronic achieve its mission of alleviating pain restoring health and extending life for millions of patients worldwide.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Contribute to the design development and testing of mixed-signal electrical systems and circuits for medical devices ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards (e.g. IEC& -2-2).
- Develop detailed specifications schematics and PCB layouts collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to meet design and performance requirements.
- Ensure reliability develop technical specifications for design and production and test hardware conformance to specifications; may include designing new or modifying existing products.
- Contribute to technical project planning establish timelines define deliverables and proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Perform design verification testing and validation to ensure compliance with industry standards and product requirements.
- Assist manufacturing with issues stemming from hardware quality issues
- Conduct detailed analysis simulation and modeling to ensure performance requirements are met.
- Review costumer complaint trends and determine if a quality problem exists
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Defining the direction for new products processes standards or operational plans based on business strategy with a significant impact on work group results.
- Working in a Regulatory / FDA controlled product development environment
- Providing input to departmental planning and resource activities

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Nice to have
- Experience with all phases of mixed-signal board design including architecture circuit design schematic capture component selection PCB layout and design verification
- Strong electrical signals and systems fundamentals including frequency domain representations and circuit analysis
- Experience with OrCAD schematic capture and PCB layout tools
- Hands-on experience using lab test equipment (e.g. multimeters oscilloscopes logic and network analyzers) for system integration debugging and testing
- Experience designing testing and implementing high-voltage systems (5 kV)
- Experience in designing and testing medical equipment within a regulated industry and familiarity with 60601-1 safety standard
- Ability to work in an agile development environment
- Interest in gaining an understanding of Surgical Hardware products
- Interest in new technologies coupled with the ability to quickly learn and apply new tools and techniques as needed
- Focus on accuracy and precision in technical tasks which is crucial for quality and reliability.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$130400.00 - $195600.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience certification/education market conditions and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
