About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK to keep financial markets fair thriving and effective. By joining us youll play a key part in protecting consumers driving economic growth and shaping the future of UK finance services.

SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision) creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition).

The Consumer Finance Directorate oversees policy and supervision for over 30000 firms across consumer credit claims management credit unions and mortgage intermediaries aiming to ensure fair access to credit early support for those in financial difficulty and timely high-quality debt advice.

Role Responsibilities

  • Review and analyse information and data collected from firms to assess a firms business model identifying and mitigating risks to UK customers

  • Support work in ways to solve problems identified within firms and wider credit markets

  • Develop constructive working relationships with senior stakeholders to communicate progress of tasks

  • Contribute towards the continuous improvement of internal processes by suggesting changes that would influence wider divisional and business-wide opportunities

  • Help to embed and oversee the implementation of the new consumer duty in line with the FCAs framework

  • Supporting with debt collection negotiating payment plans and maintaining accurate records

Skills Required

Minimum:

  • Prior experience of retail lending or consumer finance

  • Prior experience within a regulatory/financial services environment

  • Prior experience of working on debt collection cases

Essential:

  • Proven experience to work to tight deadlines using sound judgment to achieve results in a high-pressure environment

  • Ability to prepare documents and briefing notes ahead of firm meetings engaging effectively with firms in writing to support delivery of good consumer outcomes

  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders both internally and internally

  • An understanding of the regulatory framework including handbook rules and guidance

  • Proven experience in dealing with issues impacting consumers in vulnerable circumstances

  • A strong understanding of regulatory finance and consumer protection
