Job Summary

License/Certification/Registration:
* Minimum of 40 hours of interpreter training required.
* Membership in statewide MDH roster for interpreters required.
* National Certification (NBCMI or CCHI/CMI) preferred.

Education:
* High School diploma or GED required; Bachelors degree or Associate degree preferred.
* Education in languages translation interpretation or related fields required.
* Certificate in Medical Interpreting preferred.
* Completion of credentials in medical interpreting (ie: Bridging the Gap MiTio cross-cultural training 40-hour accredited medical courses).

Experience:
* Minimum of 40 hours of interpreter training required.
* Advanced High or Superior rating on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) in English and Target Language preferred.
* Two years of interpreting experience in healthcare preferred.
* Previous experience related to healthcare language services for children and/or families preferred.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Understand a variety of regional accents and linguistic styles and registers.
* Select appropriate mode of interpretation for each encounter.
* Demonstrated interpretation and translation experience in health-related contexts.
* Demonstrated ability to competently interpret in English and one or more other needed languages.
* Knowledge of medical and/or dental terminology.
* Ability to accurately interpret for patient and patients care team.
* Ability to the use computers and EMR program.
* Essential computer knowledge required.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role the skills education training credentials and experience of the candidate internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary this position may be eligible for medical dental vision retirement and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.

Department Overview
The Interpretive Services department facilitates effective communication in health care across linguistic and cultural differences. Professional ASL Hmong Laotian Somali and Spanish interpretors are on staff and provide services 24 hours-a-day 7-days a week for patients at Childrens.

Position Summary

Provides interpretation services during patient encounters. Provides sight translation services to patients and staff members as needed while assisting with paperwork. Provides over-the-phone interpretation for Childrens families and staff. Facilitates communication across cultural differences. Adheres to NCIHC medical interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics. Responds to emergent needs and assist teams. Supports the Interpreter Services Department at Childrens through working constructively in a team participating in program functions and performing tasks as requested by the department Supervisor and Manager.
