THE OPPORTUNITY
Join as an Android engineer who will begin by building and maintaining native test automation for our Android app to enable fast safe releases in a regulated environment (HIPAA/GDPR). As the automation foundation stabilizes youll transition into feature development in Kotlin contributing directly to the product experience. This role is hands-on engineering not a test-only position.
WHAT YOULL DO
- Native test automation (initial focus): Build and maintain UI and integration tests using Espresso and Jetpack Compose Testing (ComposeTestRule) BDD with Cucumber (Xray integration) plus JUnit and MockK.
- Evolve testing foundations: Define along with other developers conventions utilities fixtures and deterministic data for reliable maintainable tests reducing flakiness and speed up feedback.
- Wire test suites into Gradle/GitHub Actions (or similar) with sharding/parallelization; operate runs on device farms (eg.: Firebase Test Lab)
- Observability-assisted debugging: Use logs crash reporting and network inspection tools to triage issues quickly and validate fixes with developers.
- Feature development (growing focus over time): Build Android features in Kotlin using modern patterns (eg.: Jetpack Compose MVVM Coroutines/Flow DI with Hilt/Dagger) write clean testable code.
- Collaboration and quality: Partner with Product/Design for UX fidelity participate in code reviews and contribute to maintainable architecture and coding standards.
- Compliance support: Produce traceable auditable test artifacts and follow privacy-by-design practices appropriate for regulated products.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 years of experience in Android Development with Kotlin
- Hands-on experience with Android test frameworks: Espresso Jetpack Compose Testing JUnit; mocking with MockK (or Mockito).
- CI/CD experience for Android (Gradle test sharding/parallelization) and running tests on cloud device farms.
- Strong debugging skills using logs crash reports and network inspection; able to isolate issues across app layers and environments.
- Strong communication skills in English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience building features with Jetpack Compose MVVM Coroutines/Flow and DI (Hilt/Dagger).
- Background in digital health or other regulated data-intensive products familiarity with privacy-by-design.
- Accessibility localization and performance optimization experience on Android.
