Job Description
The Academic Building 1 (AB1) Tier 2 Audiovisual Technician provides advanced on-site audiovisual (AV) support for Virginia Techs Academic Building One in Alexandria VA and the Virginia Tech Research Center in Arlington VA. Serving as an extension of the Classroom AV Services (CAVS) department in Blacksburg this position ensures that the user experience at Northern Virginia locations aligns with the standards established university-wide.
Reporting to the Academic Technology and AV Services Manager at AB1 the incumbent will deliver professional AV support system maintenance and technical training to faculty staff guests and students. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance troubleshooting complex technical issues assisting with AV installations and maintaining accurate documentation in the departments ticketing and asset management systems.
This role is instrumental in supporting Virginia Techs ongoing expansion in the Northern Virginia region and ensuring reliable high-quality classroom technology experiences.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality professional audiovisual support to end users.
Conduct regular testing and preventative maintenance of AV systems to ensure optimal performance.
Train and provide technical guidance to Tier 1 Technicians and student staff.
Troubleshoot diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues promptly.
Assist with AV installations and verify full system functionality.
Maintain accurate documentation in ticketing and inventory management systems.
Ensure all instructional spaces are properly equipped and prepared for academic use.
Support events through training setup and monitoring
Required Qualifications
Several years of experience in the audiovisual industry
Demonstrated experience providing technical and customer support for AV systems.
Strong understanding of AV signal flow and system architecture.
Proficiency with web conferencing and lecture capture platforms.
Experience in the usage and configuration of Crestron and QSC systems.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and work from ladders as necessary.
Possession of a valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a higher education environment.
Experience with audiovisual installations.
Experience with Windows macOS iOS and Android operating systems.
Live event production experience including video streaming recording and audio mixing.
Industry certifications are preferred (e.g. Avixa CTS CTS-I CTS-D; Crestron; QSC)
Foundational knowledge of IT networking principles
