Job Summary:

The Digital Accessibility Assistant works with CEITL staff to improve the accuracy of machine captions on instructional video to align with the ADA standard of 99% accurate closed captions with correct punctuation and capitalization. The position involves reviewing closed captions associated with video and making corrections so that the captions match what is being spoken. Machine captioning provides around a 90% or better accuracy (speaker and topic dependent). CEITL Digital Accessibility Assistants review those captions and remediate errors.

Job Duties


o Following departmental workflow to run machine captions on videos (usually short 5-15 minute) and then remediating the errors.


o View instructional videos with closed captions watch for and fix errors.


o Over time additional training may be provided to support additional digital

accessibility work such as remediating PDFs or other course-related files.


o Work is scheduled in the CEITL staff office in Wyllie Hall with flexibility during standard business hours (M-F 8:00-4:30). Work time will be available during

semester breaks including winterim if desired.

Required Qualifications:

Strong attention to detail and good working knowledge of English spelling and grammar (no major year or GPA restrictions)

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful completion of ENGL 101 or equivalent
Education: Current undergraduate or graduate student
