Your new role

An opportunity to join our Regulatory services team on a full time and permanent basis. The role offers flexibility but the successful candidate will need to be mobile and available in the city during weekdays. You will need to be available to respond to on-going nuisance calls during the course of the day as they arise and be proactive in your investigation of these cases. The role will also include the triaging of cases for other colleagues in the team as well as managing your own case load.

The role will require work across the range of regulatory services functions but focuses mainly in the environmental protection team investigating nuisance including domestic noise nuisance dust light bonfires drainage pest infestations and accumulations. The team also work closely with our licensing team development control and events teams.

The role contributes to the councils ambitions to have a strong and prosperous community and a safe city with a good quality of life for all. To help us deliver these ambitions you will have knowledge and expertise in relation to enforcement.

You may be required to be flexible in respect of out of hours work requirements to meet the needs of the service.

What youll need to succeed

As stated in the JD you will need to have experience of enforcement of functions within a Local Authority or other statutory body. You will need to have or develop relevant knowledge in areas of environmental protection including investigation of cases and dealing with any resultant criminal proceedings.

It is vital that you can communicate effectively verbally and in writing as you will be dealing with a variety of stakeholders from different backgrounds and across different levels. It is crucial that you are efficient when dealing with the competing agendas of stakeholders and driven to achieve the best outcome. You need to be proficient with IT various databases and monitoring systems. Essentially you will be a team player with flexibility in respect of out of hours work requirements to ensure the needs of the service and in tune with the values and behaviours expected at SCC.
