Working as a member of the University Libraries Digital Strategies and Innovation (DSI) division the Digitization Lab Coordinator reports to and works closely with the Director of Digital Collections and Digitization. The Digitization Lab Coordinator oversees and coordinates the operations of the Digitization Lab to digitize historical and primary source materials for digital preservation and access and for the digital collections that enhance access to the Libraries special research collections.
The Digitization Lab Coordinator is responsible for all daily lab operations workflows and activities to convert to digital formats a wide range of paper-based materials from the special research collections. This position directs and reports on production for concurrent projects including execution of digitization plans overseeing quality assurance for all operations monitoring project progress and ensuring standards and best practices are followed. This position selects supervises schedules trains and evaluates performance of lab employees; monitors and approves time worked; and coordinates personnel and payroll issues. This position responds to internal and external digitization inquiries and requests; provides digitization consultations for Libraries units and others; provides technical expertise in all aspects of lab operations; and monitors and approves documentation equipment and supplies in consultation with the Director of Digital Collections and Digitization. The Digitization Lab Coordinator advises the director on production estimates for requests and projects; and works with the director to set production goals; develop or improve procedures and workflows; and identify and test equipment and software to increase the Labs efficiency and capabilities to address current and new needs.
As a member of the administrative coordinator classification this position will participate in library services directly related to their domain of expertise such as day-to-day responsibility for organizing and coordinating specialized functions; answering questions providing information and handling complaints for internal and external customers; updating procedures for a more efficient operation when necessary; establishing and maintaining filing systems including confidential documents; assisting with design and selection of departmental software; selection supervision training and performance evaluation of assigned staff; preparing staff and student employee schedules and monitoring and approving time worked; coordinating departmental personnel and payroll issues; planning and coordinating special projects; collecting and disseminating information for internal and external customers; and performing various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of this position.
