Robert Service School is a K-12 school with approximately 200 students. We have a highly dedicated and diverse staff led by the RSS Principal and the Trondëk Hwëchin Education Manager and supported by an engaged community. Situated in Dawson City Yukon on Trondëk Hwëchin Territory those of us who call it home live according to principles that are referred to as Trëhude living or going through the world in a good way. Section 17.7 of the Trondëk Hwëchin Self-Government Agreement commits Trondëk Hwëchin and the Government of Yukon to share responsibility for lifelong learning on Trondëk Hwëchin Traditional Territory. The administration design and delivery of education is co-governed and emphasizes an integrated education system built on a foundation of Dënezhu and local ways of knowing being and doing. We follow the lead of our learners and respond by providing opportunities that can meet their needs and that allow them to discover their purpose.

Qualifications and Experience:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
Bachelor of Education with coursework and/or training in Special Education;
Recent teaching experience (Teacher Education Practicum experience included) at the primary intermediate and/or secondary level (please specify)
Recent experience (Teacher Education Practicum experience included) in developing and implementing the requirements of Individualized Education Plans Student Learning Plans Behaviour Support Plans and Safety Plans ;
Recent experience (Teacher Education Practicum experience included) working with a School Based Team to support classroom teachers by identifying and providing strategies and programming for students with diverse learning needs ;
Recent experience (Teacher Education Practicum experience included) in Universal Designs for Learning (UDL) and universal and essential supports to meet a wide range of learning abilities and styles with a strong focus on numeracy and literacy ;
Experience administering level A assessments (screeners benchmarks) would be considered an asset
Experience supporting a classroom structured literacy program would be considered an asset
Experience working in a Yukon First Nations setting and in teaching First Nations students would be an asset;
Experience in self-regulation and/or restorative practices would be considered an asset;
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
Capable of teaching a differentiated group of learners in an inclusive or intervention program as required
Ability to plan for schedule and support paraprofessionals;
Ability to co-teach with classroom teachers;
A philosophy of inclusive education; excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills to work closely with students staff parents consultants related agencies and the greater community in meeting the social emotional and academic needs of all students;
Willingness to lead IEP and school-based team meetings and to implement various support plans for students;
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population;
Familiarity with Trondëk Hwëchin culture and in teaching First Nations students;
Willingness to work with Trʼondek Hwechʼin knowledge holders to deliver locally relevant content;
Willingness and ability work as a member of a team to promote support and work collaboratively with all staff members on multiple school goals and initiatives such the Neuro-sequential model and Restorative Practices;
Awareness of the unique challenges of northern education;
Commitment to live work and participate as a member of a vibrant rural community.
