Overview:

A Technician - Hydro is committed to safety and safe work practices. These individuals are responsible to ensure the safety of themselves coworkers the general public and Company property. They know and apply the fundamentals of Hydro Operations and are aware of the hazards involved in this discipline. They ensure the safety and reliability of the Hydro systems particularly in the powerhouse head works portions of substations and related systems. They demonstrate the ability to competently and effectively perform the duties of their job including the skills to perform the operation maintenance and construction of Hydro generation stations and related systems. They work closely with others in a team environment including interaction with employees customers agencies and trade allies in the performance of their duties.

Duties:

• Safely and effectively performs any and all work associated with the operation maintenance and construction of Hydro Turbines Turbine Auxiliaries Generators Sub-station equipment and related systems.
• Must have had at least three years of experience in Plant Switchboard or Sub-station operation or equivalent in operating experience and/or have completed a formal training program in Hydro Generation and related systems and/or the ability to demonstrate these skills on an appropriate test.
• Must be able to understand and diagnose problems related to Hydro Generation stations and related systems and perform the work to correct these problems.
• Must have thorough knowledge of Station Lock Out Tag Out rules and procedures as well as Transmission and Distribution Switching and Tagging rules and requirements.
• Must be familiar with Companys Safety Rules Pressure Method of Resuscitation on or off the ground and able to render practical First Aid.

A Hydro Operator A is a progression position that meets all the requirements of a Hydro Operator B. In addition the Hydro Operator A Shall:

• Complete the Hydro Operator A progression program
• Provide oversight to Hydro Operator B in matters of Hydro Facility operations
• Must have had at least 5-years of experience in Plant Switchboard or Sub-station operation or equivalent in operating experience and/or have completed a formal training program in Hydro Generation and related systems and/or the ability to demonstrate these skills on an appropriate test.
• Must be able to understand and diagnose complex problems related to Hydro Generation stations and related systems and perform the work to correct these problems.
• Must be qualified in Lock Out Tag Out Program.
• Must be qualified in CPR and able to render practical First Aid.

Physical Qualifications:

• Normal health physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician including color perception.
• Strength adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.

Personal Qualifications:

• Must be able to deal with the public in pleasant tactful manner.
• Should have no aversion to working in solitary situations.
• Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours and/or a shift schedule.
• Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
• Must be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
• Must be capable of making constructive recommendations as to new procedures and standards.
• Must be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both superiors and subordinates.

Notes:

A Hydro operator A has completed the formal 2-year training program or has passed a test to confirm significant Hydro operation skills. These individuals shall have the skills necessary to operate entire Hydro Generation Facilities safely and knowledgeably. The Hydro operator B training program is formally structured such that after the first 6-months as a Hydro Operator the individual shall be able to safely and knowledgeably Startup and Shutdown the Hydro generating units The accepted applicant will be given a Hydro qualification guide and Hydro training manual to be utilized during the training. Weekly reviews will be scheduled with training team and supervision. It is expected that a certain amount of study and review might be necessary off company time depending on the applicants background and experience. As a member of the Hydro team there is overtime required due to the nature of the work (Hydro power stations operate 24-hours a day and alarm response is addition after hours response to storms is sometimes necessary). After hour call out response will be reviewed and posted monthly. As part of the job >20% callout response is required.
