Job Summary

SALARY: up to $58000 annually

POSITION SUMMARY:

Administers and enforces anti-discrimination legislation and conducts educational presentations concerning Americans with Disabilities Act discrimination in employment education public accommodation sexual harassment and some housing. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter highly motivated and capable of initiating projects independently. Makes recommendations to the Executive Director concerning discrimination complaints.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Responsible for overseeing office functions and supervision of staff upon request.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct investigative work regarding complaints filed with the Commission. Interviews complainants and respondents performing conciliatory work and other related tasks.
  • Intakes and drafts complaints in employment education public accommodation sexual harassment and some housing and other areas when required.
  • Prepare Final Investigative Reports.
  • Conducts Fact Finding Conferences On-site Investigations Witness Interviews and Conciliation Conferences.
  • Present educational seminars to business community and government groups on topics related to discrimination.
  • Maintain files and all documentation concerning discrimination in cases in a confidential manner.
  • Manage a continuous caseload and is required to meet a quota on the number of cases produced per month.
  • Stay updated on all new laws and cases concerning discrimination and Civil Rights.
  • Perform job duties in a professional and through manner to adequately investigate all assigned charges. Must complete housing investigations within a 100-day time limitation and employment investigations with 180-day time limitation.
  • Assist in training of other investigative staff.
  • Some travel as well as evening and weekend work is required.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Answers phones assist customers and performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Public Administration Sociology Paralegal or a related field
  • Minimum of five years experience in Civil Rights

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:

Working knowledge of City or County government a plus

CERTIFICATES LICENCE REGISTRATION:

Valid Indiana Drivers License if required to drive City vehicle

EQUIPMENT:

Desktop and laptop computer; telephone copier and facsimile machine.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in office settings with moderate inside temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office. Entire office is smoke free.
