The Town of Vail is now hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator II / Construction Inspector
Expected Hiring Range: $35.15 (minimum) - $43.94 (mid-point)
The Town of Vail is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Heavy Equipment Operator II / Construction Inspector to join our Public Works Streets Division. This unique dual-role position supports critical year-round operationsserving as a Heavy Equipment Operator II during the winter months and a Construction Inspector during the summer season.
As a Heavy Equipment Operator this role performs snow plowing sanding hauling and general road and infrastructure maintenance to ensure the safety and accessibility of Vails streets. As a Construction Inspector this position monitors and inspects public and private construction within the Towns rights-of-way to ensure compliance with Town standards codes and permitting requirements helping to protect Town infrastructure and minimize disruption to the community.
This is a hands-on role that requires strong mechanical aptitude sound judgment and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in all weather conditions.
Skills / Requirements
Experience Education & Skills
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years experience in public works heavy equipment operation or related construction inspection field preferred.
Experience working in municipal or infrastructure environments strongly desired.
Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment such as loaders graders backhoes dump trucks and snow removal machinery.
Experience with construction inspection permitting and coordination with contractors and utility companies is beneficial.
Education:
Licenses & Certifications:
Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within three months of hire.
Preferred certifications include Flagger Backhoe I & II Loader I & II Motor Grader I Confined Space and Forklift.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment.
Working knowledge of street maintenance traffic control and construction best practices.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans blueprints and specifications.
Competent in MS Office (Outlook Word Excel) and able to learn permitting/inspection software (ProjectDox CSI/Magnet).
Excellent communication problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Proven ability to work independently exercise sound judgment and respond effectively to emergencies and weather events.
