About the Role
The primary purpose of Ophthalmic Assistant is to provide basic level technical support to the Ophthalmology Clinics Faculty and Residents and to perform various services as directed to facilitate patient care and efficient clinic operation.
Responsibilities
What Youll Do
- Performs and accurately documents either electronically or in written form intake patient interview to include: chief complaint and HPI; Review of Systems; past family medical and social history; patient medication list.
- Performs under direction of an ophthalmologist basic level ophthalmic screening procedures as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) to include Snellen visual acuity; automated lensometry refractometry and keratometry; automated visual field testing; corneal topography; measurement of intra-ocular pressure using Tonopen; contact lens instruction.
- Performs routine patient care under the direction of an ophthalmologist to include: measurement of height weight temperature and blood pressure; and point of care blood glucose testing and urine pregnancy testing.
- Performs routine patient care under the direction of an ophthalmologist to include measurement of height weight temperature and blood pressure; point of care blood glucose testing and urine pregnancy testing.
- Under direction of physician and by physician order instills diagnostic eye drops.
Qualifications
What Youll Bring
Required:
- JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) Certification at the Ophthalmic Assistant level.
- If candidate does not have the certification must obtain within one (1) year of hire as Ophthalmic Assistant.
- Current certification in a related field considered for substitution. This substitution is made on a case-by-case basis. Examples of acceptable certificates are optometry surgical technology or foreign medical graduate with experience in Ophthalmology.
- Current CPR Certification.

Compensation
In compliance with New Jerseys Pay Transparency Act the salary range for this position is TT/1950:: $25.63 - $26.13 - $26.92 per hour.
