The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation is a private family foundation with the goal of contributing to charities whose bold ideas shape a better future for everyone. The Foundation supports organizations focused on the arts environment education humanitarian relief and womens empowerment. As well a significant portion of the Foundations budget is devoted to neuroscience research and to programs supporting people living with dementia and their our work we are inspired by our founders commitment to community and country and are guided by the values of excellence impact trust and sustainability.

Opportunity Overview

In this newly created position the Manager Operations will support a wide range of activities that contribute to the Foundations impact including open calls for neuroscience research proposals; tracking and reporting on granting and finances; and initiatives that increase the efficiency of the foundations grants management system and day-to-day operations. This position represents an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with a deep appreciation for the important role that the charitable sector plays in creating a strong and vibrant Canada. The successful candidate will apply their exceptional analytic organizational and process skills to the ongoing success of one of Canadas leading foundations.

The Manager Operations will report to the Executive Director and will also work closely with the Director Neuroscience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director Neuroscience to execute open calls for proposals including supporting communications; grants management system configuration; the review process; and administration of grant agreements and reporting
  • Proactively identify and implement improvements in the Foundations grants management system and day-to-day operations
  • Support the production of meeting materials particularly data and concept visualization
  • Support monitoring of the foundations disbursements against its annual granting budget
  • Manage or support additional administrative duties as required
  • Support special events and projects as needed

Qualifications

  • 5 years of professional experience within the charitable sector and/or a demonstration of long-standing volunteer commitments
  • Experience with effectively using and improving grants management systems (e.g. SmartSimple)
  • Ability to support multi-staged projects that span 8-10 months
  • Strong background in project management budgeting and financial tracking
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard office applications particularly the use of PowerPoint and Excel to distill data and create compelling presentation decks
  • Experience and/or education related to one or more of the foundations interest areas; neuroscience experience or interest is an asset
  • Experience working for a family foundation or family business is an asset
