Associate/ Professor of Communication

Position

The School of Communication seeks a faculty member to lead the Center for Communication Culture and Change as Director. This is a tenure eligible position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in Communication. The position will start August 15th 2026.

Centerfor Communication Culture andChange

TheCenterfor Communication Culture andChange(4C) focuses on promoting positive socialchangethrough communication research practice and evaluation. TheCenterserves as a valuable venue benefiting students and faculty through collaborative and compelling scholarly and creative projects that address contemporary challenges. This focusstems from the premise that communication is a transformative practice and a powerful tool for catalyzing socialchangethat transcends cultural barriers and crosses global boundaries. The mission of theCenters research and creative portfolio is to advance the field of communication by contributing original socially relevant and impactful creative activity and research.

School of Communication is a leader in advancing knowledge and practice across communication disciplines. The School houses five departmentsCommunication Studies Cinematic Arts Interactive Media Journalism and Media Management and Strategic Communicationand is home to state-of-the-art facilities innovative research centers and an internationally recognized faculty. The School is dedicated to preparing students to become ethical effective and engaged communicators capable of shaping interpreting and leveraging the media and communication that influence society. Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Communication or relevant field

  • Distinguished recordof scholarship creative work or educational leadership meriting appointment as tenured Associate or Full Professorat the University of Miami

  • Expertise relevant to communication and social change

Desired Experience

  • Proven strategic and visionary leadershipin an academic or research setting

  • Demonstrated success in securing external fundingand managing budgets

  • Ability to build interdisciplinary collaborationsand engage stakeholders

  • Experience mentoring faculty staffand studentsin inclusive environments

  • Excellent communication negotiation and problem-solvingskills

Responsibilities

  • Leading as Director of the Center for Communication Culture & Change

  • Advancing research and creative work on communication media culture and social change

  • Creating initiatives to build financial support for the Center faculty and students

  • Managing operations including staffing programming and budgeting

  • Enhancing visibility and impact of the Center

  • Cultivating relationshipswith alumni donors and community partners

  • Maintaining an active research portfolio in communication scholarship

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses

  • Advising and mentoring students and faculty

  • Contributing to the intellectual life and service needs of the department school and university

  • Promoting an inclusive and collaborative team culture
