Job Title: Patient Care Associate Labor & Delivery
Location: Brooklyn NY
Rate: $28/hour (W2)
Shift: 11:30 PM 8:00 AM 37.5 hours/week
Duration: 3 months and 3 days
Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse or medical professional the Patient Care Associate provides clinical and clerical support in a Labor & Delivery unit. This role involves assisting in basic patient care monitoring vital signs supporting examinations and procedures and maintaining accurate records-all to ensure efficient compassionate care delivery.
Key Responsibilities: -
Measure and record vital signs height weight and obtain laboratory specimens.

Instruct patients on specimen collection and conduct basic screenings (e.g. dipstick hemoccult).

Prepare specimens for lab pick-up and retrieve results.

Perform basic vision hearing and urinalysis testing.

Administer emergency first aid including basic life support.

Provide basic wound care bandaging and ear irrigation.
-
Prepare exam rooms and assist providers during procedures.

Educate patients on preparation for medical tests and procedures.
-
Conduct patient intake interviews to collect medical history and demographic data.
-
Maintain and update patient charts forms and other documentation.
-
Report patient observations to the healthcare team for clinical assessment.

Answer routine patient inquiries and assist with appointment scheduling.
-
Transport and escort patients within the facility as needed.

Monitor inventory and maintain supplies in the unit.

Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture or fingerstick; perform EKGs.

Coordinate with internal departments for scheduling and data entry in hospital systems.

Participate in patient education and promote safe healthy living practices.

Support new employee orientation and foster a team-based care environment.
Qualifications: -
High School Diploma or equivalent Required

AHA BLS Certification Required

Completion of a NYS Department of Health-approved Phlebotomy training program Required

Completion of a healthcare-based EKG training program Required

Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery Required
