I. Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy and one year of experience serving children and adults with severe/profound developmental disabilities or those who have multiple handicaps or background education with emphasis on neurodevelopmental sequence.


II. Special Qualifications

Current Certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Currently licensed as an Occupational Therapist in North Carolina. Current Medicaid provider with an individual NPI number (preferred).


III. Responsibilities

1. Evaluation/screening (formal and informal).

2. Development and implementation of individual treatment programs

3. Adjustment modification repair fitting and procurement of commercially available adaptive equipment protective and self-help devices (i.e. helmets feeding utensils adaptive clothing).

4. Provide consultation to staff/parents as needed.

5. Maintain current and accurate records on each person served.

6. Participate in IDT meetings for the purpose of developing monitoring and updating persons served Individual Program Plans and Person-Centered Plans as needed.

7. Consult with persons served physician and/or other professionals in the community serving the person served.

8. Provide written justification for adaptive equipment to funding sources; obtain appropriate prescription/authorization from physician to submit with justification to funding source.

9. Monitor program compliance with Splint and mealtime programs on a routine basis.

10. Provide in-service training for parents and direct care staff in oral motor techniques ADLs handling/positioning use of adaptive equipment etc.

11. Attend staff meetings and Treatment Team Meetings when requested.

12. Monitor use and supply of eating equipment splint and other OT supplies.

13. Attend and/or conduct parent meetings when requested.

14. Make recommendations for budget expenditures to Psychologist/Therapy Services Manager.

15. Always maintain a valid NC drivers license and an acceptable driving record.

16. Perform other related duties as required.

17. Serve as a clinical consultant to provide subject matter expert advice for agencys care management service in accordance with TLCs care management policies.


IV. Recruitment Standards

1. Considerable knowledge of Occupational Therapy principles techniques methods modalities and their proper application to children with disabilities. Experienced in oral-motor and feeding techniques.

2. Skills in the design and fabrication of a variety of splints and adaptive devices.

3. Relate effectively with the people we serve families and staff.

4. Work effectively within an interdisciplinary model.

5. Instruct and supervise staff in O.T. methods and techniques.

6. Instruct families in home program activities (range of motion positioning adaptive feeding etc.).

7. Must be able to routinely lift to 40 pounds independently and lift from 41 to 140 pounds with the assistance of one additional person as needed.

8. Must have a valid North Carolinas drivers license and be insurable by the agencys insurance carrier.
