Virginias award-winning state park system a division of DCR boasts an incredible and diverse array of natural cultural historical and recreational resources including parks in the mountains on the ocean on the Chesapeake Bay on 8 major rivers on 4 major lakes 4 rail trails 3 battlefield sites and 32 sites listed on the National Historic Registry. Our parks encompass over 75000 acres offering campsites cabins trails shorelines lakes and ponds international dark sky sites and over 20000 educational programs and workshops each year.

Staunton River State Park is accepting applications for an Assistant Park Manager.

You will assist the Park Manager in directing personnel expenditures special events and operations for the general management of a major state park.

In this position you will:

• Provide daily operations management for the park including maintenance natural resource management camping and cabin facilities day use areas water systems special events trails visitor experience and community relations.
• Responsible for coordinating human resources functions such as recruiting hiring training supervising and managing employee performance.
• Provides supervision and inspection of facilities/grounds/equipment maintenance tasks to ensure tasks are completed in compliance with OSHA VDH agency standards and applicable local state and federal law.
• Assists with managing and maintaining cultural and natural resources of the park and provides supervision and oversight of interpretive programs.
• Assist with procurement of goods and services management and tracking of expenses and budget development to include prioritizing projects and equipment needs. This position will also oversee fixed assets accounting inventory management and revenue collection monitoring.
• Responsible for ensuring and maintaining continuity of operations and adherence to the goals and objectives of the park and division in the absence of the Park Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience and knowledge in personnel management including staff supervision training and performance management.
• Experience in recognizing and addressing impacts on natural cultural historical or recreational resources.
• Experience leading projects related to conservation preservation and restoration of natural cultural historical or recreational resources.
• Experience performing duties related to revenue collection/reporting or financial/budget tracking.
• Experience or knowledge of custodial building facility grounds and systems that may impact public safety and/or customer service.
• Experience coordinating seasonal work programs and schedules with minimal impact on public use.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience providing exceptional customer service to external and internal volunteers guests and community partners.
• Working knowledge of trades or construction techniques.
• Skilled in using computers including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Possession of a valid drivers license.

Additional Considerations

• Experience and knowledge of implementing policies and rules that directly impact visitors.
• Experience managing and maintaining cultural and natural resources.
• Considerable experience performing civic/community outreach and supervising and overseeing interpretive and volunteer programs.
• Previous work experience in parks and recreation or a similar environment.
• Experience with special events such as planning scheduling working with partners or marketing.
• Experience with OSHA and site safety requirements.

This position requires shift work which includes weekends and holidays. Additionally this position will serve in an on-call capacity to provide security and operational efficiencies. Responding to calls outside normal scheduled business hours requires a response within a prescribed time frame.

THIS POSITION WILL BE REQUIRED TO LIVE IN PARK HOUSING.In accordance with 10.1-109.B of the Code of Virginia this position is required to reside in Department-controlled housing for the purpose of providing security and operational efficiencies to the property of the Department. The incumbent must enter into a lease agreement and demonstrate possession of liability and personal property insurance.
