SGS is expanding its Geotechnical Engineering capability in Western Australia and we are seeking a motivated Geotechnical Engineer to establish and lead this function. This newly created role will work closely with our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team to deliver geotechnical investigations analysis and reporting for mining construction and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead geotechnical services in WA providing technical leadership across field investigations analysis and reporting.
- Plan and execute site investigations including drilling supervision in-situ testing logging sampling and coordination with subcontractors ensuring compliance with Australian standards and SGS safety requirements.
- Analyse field and laboratory data to evaluate soil and rock properties prepare foundation recommendations slope stability assessments settlement evaluations and geotechnical design reports.
- Integrate laboratory results from the CMT team to provide comprehensive recommendations and support consistent quality and client satisfaction.
- Prepare proposals scopes of work budgets and client reports; liaise directly with clients to understand project requirements and deliver professional advice.
- Mentor and provide guidance to CMT field technicians and junior staff fostering a culture of safety quality and continuous improvement.
- Identify and develop new geotechnical service offerings supporting business development and market growth in WA.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant Australian standards (AS 1726 AS 1289 AS 2159) and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and SGS policies.
- Support integration of emerging technologies including digital data management IoT monitoring and automated reporting to enhance service efficiency and quality.
Qualifications :
About You
- Bachelors degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Masters or Chartered status highly regarded).
- 5 years of professional geotechnical engineering experience in Australia with hands-on field investigation logging sampling and direct client interaction.
- Strong technical knowledge in soil and rock mechanics foundation design slope stability and construction materials testing.
- Proficient with geotechnical software including PLAXIS Rocscience Geosmart and gINT.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and familiarity with laboratory and data management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex technical concepts clearly to clients colleagues and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects deliver accurate analysis and meet KPIs while maintaining safety and quality standards.
