Opportunity Description

• Police Recruit
  • A police recruit is a temporary status for new employees while they complete the following:
    • Satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS also known as Basic Police Academy)
    • Satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification
    • Satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period

• November 3-November 30: Accepting applications
  • During our recruiting period we will conduct our Application Material Review weekly. Qualified candidates will be invited to schedule a Physical Fitness Test and complete a Personal History Statement (PHS) to be brought with them to their test. Following testing candidates will complete a Written Examination.
  • Candidates who pass their Physical Fitness Test and Written Examination will undergo an Internal Background Investigation.
• December 15-19: Candidates invited to move forward in the next step of our hiring process will be invited to complete a DISC Assessment and Participate in an Oral Panel Interview
• December 29-January 2: Oral Panel Interviews
• January 5: Candidates are notified of their status in our hiring process
• January 5-February 27: Candidates extended a contingent offer of employment will complete pre-employment requirements
• March 2: First Day as a City of Coppell Employee
• March 23: First Day of Academy

• Police Recruit (PD1 1)
  • Starting Hourly Rate: $39.27
• Police Officer (PD2 1-7)
  • Starting Hourly Rate Step 1: $40.85
  • The starting salary of certified officers is based on the previous experience level of the applicant as a full-time police officer.

• Candidates must be 21 years of age by T.C.O.L.E Graduation or older
• Valid State of Texas Drivers License or the ability to obtain one with agood driving record
• Ability to satisfactorily complete our hiring process:
  • Complete the Preliminary Application
  • Physical Fitness Test (Concept 2 Rower)
  • Written Examination
  • Internal Background Investigation

• Ability to satisfactorily complete all pre-employment requirements post contingent offer:
  • Credit Education and Employment Verification
  • Polygraph Psychological (L3) and Drug/Medical Evaluation (L2)

• High School Diploma/GED
• Thirty (30) hours of college education from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.0 or higher overall grade point average (GPA)

  • Ability to satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification

• Be in good standing with current/previous agency
• Certified Peace Officer with at least 3 years of experience in a progressive agency of comparable size to Coppell from any state
• Experience as a reserve officer constable military service military police and jailer is not accepted.

• Prior patrol duty experience
• TCOLE Advanced Certification
• Fluency in a language other than English
• Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field of study

• Help people by providing public safety to the City Of Coppell
• Promote police / community partnerships through Problem-Oriented Policing and Community Policing
• Provide a wide variety of services to our community including Citizens Police Academy Junior Police Academy Citizens on Patrol Womens Self Defense and more
• Enforce traffic and parking laws
• Participate in community events and providing public safety at City-sponsored events sporting events and other large scale public events
