Summary Statement

A Groundskeeper II is responsible for leading groundskeeping shift work to maintain aesthetically pleasing State grounds including performing a variety of groundskeeping and routine maintenance work on the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill campus.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Leads groundskeeping shift work by assigning monitoring and reviewing work and providing on-the-job training guidance and direction.

  • Maintains and cultivates lawn flowers shrubs and trees involving planting fertilizing transplanting irrigating weeding mulching pruning mowing edging and trimming.

  • Applies pesticides and herbicides safely and responsibly when needed in accordance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.

  • Oversees and performs seasonal care such as planting in the spring or leaf removal in the fall.

  • Maintains driveways steps and walkways by removing snow or ice trash and debris and may assist in grading and repair.

  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and hand tools including mowers tractors saws sprayers blowers edgers grass shears and trimmers.

  • Paints and repairs tables benches and signs and assists trades and maintenance personnel in painting minor carpentry plumbing and repairs as needed.

  • Collaborates with maintenance team members on larger projects.

  • Assists in the preparation and cleanup for outdoor events.

  • Communicates and interacts effectively with people across cultures ranges of ability genders ethnicities ages and races.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Groundskeeper II
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience with the operation and basic maintenance of motor vehicles landscaping or groundskeeping equipment hand tools and supplies.
  2. Possession of a valid Drivers License (not suspended revoked or cancelled or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicableterms and conditions of employment in accordance with Title 29 Chapter 59 and Title 19 Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
