WORK DAYS: 260 days (12 months) - 260 Day Work Year Calendar
Monday - Friday 8 hours/day 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
SALARY: 10S - Supervisory salary placement from $79376 to $101781 annually
Salary prorated based on start date and prior experience.

DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services perform a variety of complex management and administrative functions within the Transportation Department; specifically in the planning organizing and coordination of the Districts transportation program; abide by all District policies and State laws related to transportation needs of the District; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; and provide direct oversight of all transportation department employees including but not limited to reviews and evaluations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduation or its equivalent;
Must possess or attain a state-certified bus driver instructor license within one (1) year of employment.
Experience: Minimum three (3) or more years experience as a bus driver and/or transportation dispatcher or two (2) years experience as a bus driver and one (1) year as an authorized delegated behind-wheel trainer of the appropriate class or two (2) years as a bus driver and three (3) years of experience operating vehicles requiring a Class A or B commercial driver license;
Principles of personnel administration basic functions and operations of personnel management; Use and application of Microsoft Office Suite; Google Suite; Adobe Professional.
Personal Qualities: Interpersonal skills using tact patience deescalation strategies and courtesy;
Written and verbal communication acumen;
Ability to maintain high standards of performance and to provide leadership in further development of programs appropriate for the continued growth of the district;
Resourceful innovative helpful diligent persistent objective inquiring and self motivated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in an education personnel management business management or related area.
Experience: Five (5) or more years experience as a bus driver and/or transportation dispatcher;
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in the supervision and administration of transportation services including route planning and driving training;
Practices and procedures related to classified employment.
Personal Qualities: Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan organize direct and coordinate the operation of the transportation department; abiding by District policy and State law establish bus routes and schedules both regular and special education field trips special events and other special transportation schedules;
Oversee and coordinate the maintenance repair servicing and cleaning of District vehicles and buses; make recommendations and/or decision related to the same;
Perform personnel administrative functions such as recruiting interviewing training supervising and evaluating for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing enhancing the productivity of staff and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved;
Address safety concerns; assess incidents complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of resolution. Investigate transportation and staff complaints in collaboration with Human Resources as appropriate.
Provide direct driver training activities for staff and/or volunteers who drive pupils including but not limited to providing pre-trip inspections safe loading/unloading of passengers proper use of seatbelts defensive driving and operation in inclement weather instruction pursuant to Education Code 49406 et seq. (Senate Bill 88); conduct and facilitate meetings.
Respond to emergency situations and bus accidents; advise on hazards from inclement weather and road closures for the purpose of assuring the safe transporting of students.
Act as a back-up bus driver when necessary and support coordination of substitute drivers if needed;
Maintain working relationships and act as a liaison with various public agencies (i.e. California Highway Patrol Department of Motor Vehicles California Department of Education - Office of School Transportation etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with current regulatory standards and conveying and/or gathering required information.
Ensure departmental compliance with various licensing and certification requirements including but not limited to attending a variety of meetings and workshops to maintain current knowledge of legislation legal codes and requirements;
Update drivers handbook and procedures for the purpose of supporting staff in the completion of their work activities.
Communicate with parents community administrators and teachers on routine conflicts and issues in transportation for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the issues.
Develop annual budget recommendations and practice responsible financial maintenance.
Maintain accurate and current records of operations; prepare oral and written reports as necessary to various audiences including the public Governing Board and district personnel.
Use telephone and two-way radio extensively in daily operations
Perform other related duties as assigned.
