Inova Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking an experienced advanced practice provider for a full-time position with our inpatient Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonology Team.

Thoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider Job Responsibilities:

Collaborate with surgeons and interventional pulmonologists to assess and manage the care of acutely injured or critically ill surgical patients in the inpatient setting.

Management of patients in the emergency department intensive care unit intermediate care unit and floor.

Administer medications and treatments.

Monitor patients vital signs laboratory values and response to treatment.

Assist or perform appropriately privileged procedures such as thoracentesis pleural catheter placement and removal.

Obtain and maintain advanced trauma life support.

Provide education to patients and their families on the plan of care and post-operative management.

Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding patient status and changes in condition.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research projects.

Maintain accurate and complete patient records.

Rotating days with possible nights and weekends.

Opportunities to first assist in the operating room.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program

Board Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with RNFA certification. Employees must maintain certification requirements.

ACLS Certification for physician assistants ACLS and BLS certification for nurse practitioners

Current Virginia medical license

Current DEA number National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

Nurse Practitioner Physician Assistant or Physician Associate

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Thoracic Surgery or Pulmonology setting

Experience in the operating room
