About the role

As our Lead FX TD you will be the engine and the visionary for the FX department on your show. You wont just be managingyoull be leading from the front.

What youll do:

• Lead Mentor & Manage: You will guide and inspire a talented team of FX TDs oversee assigning tasks that play to their strengths while managing their progression and professional growth.

• Set the Standard: Youll lead by example demonstrating an expert standard creating natural (and unnatural) phenomena utilising simulations in particles rigid-bodies fluids etc. and other procedural or stochastic systems. When the hero shots come in youll be ready to jump in take artistic responsibility and build the templates and tools that empower the whole team.

• Be the Project Hub: Youll be the key point of contact for supervisors and production making sure the team is meeting schedules and show deadlines. Youll ensure bidding and scheduling are accurate by anticipating creative and technical challenges before they become problems.

• Communicate with Clarity: You will ensure clear calm and proactive communication about creative solutions scheduling and any potential delays. Youll maintain relationships with all other departments addressing any issues promptly.

• Develop Your Team: Working closely with the FX HOD youll ensure the team is producing high quality work. Youll be a dedicated mentor providing regular feedback quality control and guidance on how to present work effectively in dailies.

What were looking for:

• FX Expert: You have extensive knowledge of Houdini and 7-10 years of experience as an FX TD bringing a thorough understanding of the techniques and technologies relating to simulated and procedural FX. You have proven experience in producing effects such as smoke fire clouds water steam and explosions plus experience with particle and voxel based rendering.

• Eye for Detail: You have a good sense of timing excellent artistic and technical skills and a thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to physical simulation in CG.

• Proven Leader: You have experience leading training and mentoring demonstrating a strong understanding of different skill levels workflows and project timelines.

• Problem-Solver: You have a deep understanding of key shots and can proactively identify and advise on the creative and technical challenges ahead.

• Solid Communicator: You are a key contact for production and supervisors for a reason. You can articulate complex issues and solutions clearly and concisely.

• Collaborator: You work well with all departments and set a high bar for professionalism integrity and positivity keeping your team focused and motivated even under pressure.

You might also have:

• Strong Vex Hscript Python and/or Mel scripting skills

• Knowledge in other simulation packages
