The organization operates with a small professional finance team supported by many volunteers and program staff. This role supports the finance departments goal of accurate financial reporting strong internal controls and transparent grant and program accounting.ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to work closely with the Controller to maintain accounting operations support month-end close and help prepare reliable financial statements. The ideal candidate values accuracy process improvement and supporting programmatic work through timely financial information.WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING- Perform day-to-day accounting activities including bank reconciliations general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions; maintain supporting documentation for cash receipts deposits and disbursements.
- Support grant and fund accounting: track restricted funds compile grant expense reports prepare billings and supporting schedules and coordinate with program staff on allocation of costs.
- Assist with month-end close tasks: prepare journal entries research and resolve account discrepancies and assist in preparing financial statements.
- Maintain and update schedules for fixed assets prepaid expenses and other balance sheet detail.
- Help prepare materials and schedules for annual audit and year-end close; collaborate with external auditors as required.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities and assist with ad hoc financial analyses.
- Cross-train and support other accounting staff (including payroll and clerical functions) as needed.
- Contribute to documenting and improving internal controls and accounting processes.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or closely related field.
- Typically 35 years of professional accounting experience (or equivalent) with hands-on experience in general ledger reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Experience with nonprofit fund accounting or cost accounting strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with accounting software (experience with QuickBooks is advantageous) and intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong attention to detail integrity handling confidential information and a professional flexible demeanor.
