About our team Mō te tīma

The Educational Assessment Research Unit (EARU) is located within the College of Education at the University of Otago. It is comprised of a dedicated team of researchers technical and professional staff whose primary purpose is to undertake the Curriculum Insights and Progress Study - a large-scale assessment study that monitors trends in student achievement. The study is a collaboration between the University of Otago and the New Zealand Council for Educational Research conducted on contract to the Ministry of Education.

The role Te mahi

As Senior Data Coordinator you will use your advanced Microsoft Excel and data administration skills to ensure the effective management of extensive datasets.

Your work will support the implementation of student assessments marking data analysis reporting and various other aspects of the implementation of the Curriculum Insights and Progress Study.

Working alongside the Data Manager and our collegial team this role offers an ideal opportunity to apply your skills across a busy and varied programme of activities.

Ideally youll have experience working in a similar role within a research environment where continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies are encouraged. Your ability to manage high-volume data with precision will be key. A degree in statistics or information management would also be an advantage.

Knowledge of te ao Māori te reo Māori or mātauranga Māori would be valuable in this role as we work within a kaupapa that values and upholds Māori perspectives.

Were looking for a technically proficient problem-solver with the following capabilities:
Expertise in advanced Microsoft Excel functions and techniques including proficiency with complex formulae such as INDEX/MATCH nested IF/AND/OR statements array formulas and dynamic data manipulation using pivot tables and structured references.
A high degree of competency in the use of large databases with the ability to interrogate analyse and manipulate data.
The ability to handle confidential datasets with integrity and discretion proactively identifying and implementing procedures to ensure the ongoing protection and maintenance of data confidentiality.
Significant knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite.

This is a permanent (research-funded) full time (37.5 hours per week) position located in Ōtepoti Dunedin. Applications from candidates seeking part time hours will also be considered.

The salary level for this position is provisionally evaluated as Level 5 ($69931 to $74609 per annum. Top of the range is $80285) and is subject to change.
