Job Title:Senior Manager Capital Projects

Job Summary/Purpose

Manages large power plant projects or programs of projects that typically have segmentation rating of 4 (greater than $250M dollars) or any project supportive of an Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracting strategy . Manages the development and delivery of a capital project or program to which he or she is assigned and focuses on the achievement of project cost and schedule objectives while achieving excellence in the areas of project safety and quality. Works directly with the Project Team to ensure project is delivered with cost and schedule certainty. Manages risks and risk management issues to ensure risks are identified and mitigated. Works directly with Capital Projects Project Controls group to ensure alignment with Stage Gate Process and to ensure that proper project controls are being implemented; to ensure costs are managed; change control is established and controlled; and that contingency is properly controlled. Provides direct management and support to Project Team members throughout the project lifecycle. Works closely with business unit contractor representatives to achieve capital project objectives. Report and present large capital project status on a regular basis to business unit and corporate level executives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Promotes safe behavior and adherence to the safety rules on the project. Leads the project team to establish leading indicators and proactive requirements to ensure safety is considered in all aspects of design and implementation for contractors Entergy project team members and the end user. Ensures contract scope of work includes safety deliverables/requirements as needed.

  • Defines the project organization structure required for the project and identify the technical skills required to achieve project goals. Works with the appropriate Entergy management to assignment appropriately skilled individuals to the Project Team. Prepares contract and approves requisitions change orders etc. and process invoices. Fulfills role of Contract Manager or as Owners representative as otherwise defined in the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract project contracts and administer contracts. Issues formal correspondence to Contractors.

  • Leads the project team to develop and execute the Project in accordance with the applicable corporate standards and guidelines. Ensures that team members fulfill the responsibilities as required of their roles. Navigates the project through the Entergy Stage Gate Process (SGP) and coordinate activities to meet the requirements of Entergys SGP and associated deliverables (estimates schedules gates deliverables etc.). Oversees the project team in the development of project deliverables. Coordinates the activities of project stakeholders and working groups engaged in project work. Delivers projects with cost and schedule certainty; manages and controls costs; manages risk by identifying and mitigating risks.

  • Provides clear timely and accurate project status reports for management. Prepares reports and presentations to management. Prepares and issues status reports as required. Identifies makes timely decisions and takes prompt action on project issues that could impact project performance. Promptly communicates issues to the next level of leadership that are outside the authority of capability of the Senior Project Manager to resolve.

  • Coordinates with all functional departments as required to achieve the requirements of the applicable corporate standards and to achieve project budget and timeline including CC&A and Supply Chain. Monitors contractor performance in the area of project safety schedule cost quality of work and compliance with contractual requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management or related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Preferred advanced degree

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 12 years experience in Generation

  • At least 12 years experience in large capital project management desired.

Minimum knowledge skills and abilities required of the position

  • History of safe performance active safety involvement and participation and strong desire for a safer workplace.

  • Experience with reviewing executing and managing large EPC contracts.

  • Knowledge of processes and key performance indicators for capital projects process planning and asset management.

  • Strong contract negotiation conflict resolution problem solving team building interpersonal and group communication skills.

  • Demonstrated history of Planning/Organization/Time Management skills.

  • Project risk identification mitigation and management skills.

  • Ability to make quick decisions calmly while evaluating multiple options.

  • Applies understanding of how the team relates to other closely related teams to improve efficiency of own business unit.

  • Written report and presentation skill proficiency.

  • Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word Excel & Outlook Power Point).

  • Requires comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others.

  • Applies in-depth understanding of how own discipline integrates within the function.

  • Manages multiple related teams sets organizational priorities and allocates resources.

  • Impacts the business results of a sub-function by supporting and funding of projects products services and/or technologies and developing policies and plans. Guided by functional business plans.

  • Influences others internally and externally including senior leaders.
