Our team and mission
The Real Estate and Facilities Management (REFM) Department is responsible for eight sites across Europe with a total of approximately 250000sqm of working space as well as technical facilities and a population of over 7000 staff and contractors.
ESOC is Europes centre of excellence for satellite operation and hosting ESAs mission control. It is home to the engineering teams that control spacecraft in orbit manage the Agencys Space Safety programme and ESAs global tracking station network. Since 1967 more than 85 satellites belonging to ESA and its partners have been successfully flown. The site has a population of over 900 staff and contractors. ESOC is located near the main train station in Darmstadt Germany.
The REFM Department is responsible for managing a variety of contracted Facility Management services. It delivers the strategic oversight of the site in a wide variety of domains: people management compliance crisis management and business continuity maintenance and operations safety and security asset management capital and operating planning and expenditure.
The Accelarated Investment Project for ESOC Team is responsible for a huge evolution of site over the next 6 years with the construction of one new building modernization of two buildings and demolition of three buildings.

Are you studying project management facilities management or civil engineering Join a team that supports the planning maintenance and development of infrastructure at one of Europes leading space mission centres. This internship offers hands-on experience in managing complex projects and maintenance requirements
- assist in the planning and coordination of new constructions modernisations and demolition of buildings.
- support the review and preparation of all project management relevant documents.
- help monitor compliance with quality sustainability and construction standards.
- contribute to project communication REFM internal and with other Directorates.
- participate in site inspections and reporting on infrastructure conditions.
- collaborate with internal teams and external contractors.
By the end of the internship you will:
- understand the operational challenges of managing projects (technical and administrative part).
- gain experience in interpreting and applying engineering documentation.
- learn how to integrate and manage stakeholders requirements.
- learn how to steer teams of different disciplines.
- develop project management coordination and communication skills.
- build awareness of international standards and best practices in facilities management.
Education
You must be a university student preferably studying at masters addition you must be able to prove that you will be enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.
Additional requirements
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.

Knowledge and background in AUTOCAD REVIT MS Project Power Point Excel. Motivation and curiosity for new fields of competence outside your comfort zone is an asset.
