WHAT YOULL DO
As part of the People Relations Team for U.S. and Canada the People Relations Specialist plays a vital role in supporting H&Ms people strategy by fostering a fair inclusive and legally compliant workplace.
This position based in Ajax Ontario provides hands-on Employee Relations (ER) support for the Canadian Distribution Centre and overall logistics function in US-PR-CA ensuring consistency in approach alignment with company values and compliance with local regulations.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of Canadian employment law and workplace practices and demonstrates the ability to navigate complex people matters with professionalism empathy and sound judgment.
- Serve as the primary Employee Relations contact for the Ajax Distribution Centre ensuring compliance with Canadian labor laws and alignment with H&Ms values and global policies.
- Advise coach and support managers on employee relations topics including policy interpretation performance management and workplace conduct across logistics (Canada and US).
- Conduct or support investigations and resolution processes in a fair consistent and timely manner.
- Analyze people data and ER metrics (e.g. attendance engagement turnover) to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend action plans.
- Maintain accurate confidential documentation of employee relations activities and ensure consistency in case management practices.
- Collaborate with People Relations colleagues across the U.S. and Canada to align on policies share insights and strengthen regional consistency.
- Participate in cross-border and global initiatives related to employee relations policy implementation and culture development.
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture that supports wellbeing inclusivity and employee engagement.
- Stay current on legislative changes and best practices in employment relations to proactively inform business decisions.
WHO YOU ARE
We are looking for people with
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources Labor Relations Law or related field or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in HR or Employee Relations preferably in a logistics warehouse or retail setting.
- Strong understanding of Canadian labor and employment law; awareness of cross-border HR practices an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian employment and labor legislation including the Employment Standards Act (ESA) Human Rights Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Proven expertise in employee relations case management including conflict resolution investigations and performance discussions.
- Excellent communication coaching and influencing skills with the ability to build trust and credibility across all levels of the organization.
- Strong collaboration skills with an ability to work across multiple sites countries and stakeholders.
- Agile mindset with openness to change and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to manage sensitive situations with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel PowerPoint Word).
- Willingness to travel up to 2530% including occasional visits to U.S. logistics sites.
