Assistant Curator, Asian Art

VPS 3.2: $89292 per annum 12% superannuation
Full Time Fixed Term for 3 years

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking an Assistant Curator Asian Art for the provision of a range of administrative and curatorial duties that support the Asian Art department including exhibitions and displays and the development and management of the NGV Collection.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

You will be responsible for undertaking administration duties to support the Asian Art curatorial department operations including maintaining accurate records budgets schedules and contacts drafting correspondence processing administration and responding to inquiries.

In consultation with the Senior Curator Asian Art you will also support:

• The implementation of the NGV Collections Strategy acquisitions policy and procedures and completing associated supporting documentation and collections management processes such as cataloguing.
• The planning research development and coordination of displays and exhibitions in accordance with departmental requirements. Participating as an active member of cross-departmental projects and manage specific projects as required.
• Relevant Curatorial and Audience Engagement initiatives such as NGV publications and audience engagement and learning programs including research writing and presentations.

To be successful you will have demonstrated knowledge of Asian art supplemented with a related tertiary qualification and direct or transferrable experience in curatorial practice exhibition and project management publishing or research within a related setting.

Previous experience in administering or assisting with exhibitions public programs or collections is desirable.

Demonstrated experience using collection management databases such as Vernon is highly desirable.
