Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to under general direction of the Regional Field Supervisor independently or as a member of a professional team travel to conduct surveys investigations and monitoring visits of long-term care facilities and hospitals to determine compliance with State Licensure requirements and/or Federal Medicare/Medicaid certification regulations. Coordinates nutrition programs consults and performs dietary surveys. Serves as preceptor for lower-level surveyors and as the subject matter expert on issues of dietetics.

Under general direction travels as part of the survey team to conduct difficult and complex on-site nutrition surveys of hospitals and nursing homes to assure compliance with the Nursing Home Care Act Title XIX and XVIII of the Social Security Act and Hospital Licensing Act.
Plans coordinates and administers new surveyor training and existing surveyor standardization programs.
Reviews and evaluates survey and investigation reports to lower-level dieticians for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable directives policies and guidelines.
Provide technical consultation to facility owners and operators of long-term care facilities and hospitals.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires successful completion of both state and federal Basic Surveyor Orientation courses and requires certification of having successfully completed federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Training.
Requires three (3) years of experience as a health facilities surveyor.
Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered Dietitian and knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college supplemented by a masters degree in nutrition dietetics or food service management and one year of professional experience in nutrition dietetics or food service management
