Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to under general direction of the Regional Field Supervisor independently or as a member of a professional team travel to conduct surveys investigations and monitoring visits of long-term care facilities and hospitals to determine compliance with State Licensure requirements and/or Federal Medicare/Medicaid certification regulations. Coordinates nutrition programs consults and performs dietary surveys. Serves as preceptor for lower-level surveyors and as the subject matter expert on issues of dietetics.

  • Under general direction travels as part of the survey team to conduct difficult and complex on-site nutrition surveys of hospitals and nursing homes to assure compliance with the Nursing Home Care Act Title XIX and XVIII of the Social Security Act and Hospital Licensing Act.
  • Plans coordinates and administers new surveyor training and existing surveyor standardization programs.
  • Reviews and evaluates survey and investigation reports to lower-level dieticians for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable directives policies and guidelines.
  • Provide technical consultation to facility owners and operators of long-term care facilities and hospitals.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires successful completion of both state and federal Basic Surveyor Orientation courses and requires certification of having successfully completed federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Training.
  • Requires three (3) years of experience as a health facilities surveyor.
  • Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered Dietitian and knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college supplemented by a masters degree in nutrition dietetics or food service management and one year of professional experience in nutrition dietetics or food service management
