Created in 2015 to align lighten and modernize infrastructure the Technology & Infrastructure (T & I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Please note that this position is part-time (40 hours per pay period) and includes every other weekend.

Role

You are responsible for coordinating the use and ensuring the continuity of acquisition feed and communication resources for CBC/Radio-Canada networks and external clients. You distribute the signals of programs or program segments ensuring quality control.

Description of Duties

  • Check audio video captioning and communication signals for programs or program elements across the entire Radio-Canada distribution system including those from outside distribution companies (e.g. cable operators satellite signal providers) along with all technical equipment (e.g. VTRs servers external links internet); make corrections if they are not compliant with standards.
  • Draft reports on irregularities and inform the relevant people.
  • Adjust test set up and operate technical equipment (e.g. VTRs servers broadcast graphics digital delay) ensuring everything is clean secure and in good working order.
  • Contact telecommunications companies to resolve transmission and reception problems.
  • Apply solutions in case of technical failures; coordinate operations necessary to maintain service quality and continuity and report on your work.
  • Perform tasks involved in operating equipment and making connections as required by schedules or network programming.
  • Adjust Control Centre activities to provide required signals and feeds reporting any changes or errors and implementing corrections.
  • Receive requests for terrestrial circuits or satellite channels obtain pricing and place orders with providers.
  • Coordinate and determine the necessary connections for terrestrial circuits mobile microwave links and satellite channels and manage the assignment of distribution channels (RF) and common station elements.
  • Ensure the proper operation of satellite dishes receivers/decoders and transmitters and communicate any changes to satellite channel assignments.
  • Establish communication links for signal transmission and reception conduct technical tests and maintain the necessary contacts.
  • Ensure that the return signal for each network broadcast by Radio-Canada is recorded for CRTC purposes.
  • Authorize and initialize Radio-Canada decoders/receivers based on regional and management requests.
  • Record programs commercials and promos; check their accuracy and technical quality; and take corrective action in case of non-compliance.
  • Route and feed news exchange content from servers VTRs or other sources to regional stations.
  • Import elements and perform conversions to various file formats for incorporation into edited sequences.
  • Manage disk space by deleting or archiving content associated with your work.
  • Advise technical and production staff on how to resolve issues and/or achieve desired results.
  • Review and apply technical plans and diagrams.
  • Assist in reviewing or developing operating methods and technical standards.
  • Note all relevant information in a log to ensure the required follow-up actions and continuity; consult the log daily.
  • Complete the appropriate forms and documents; share information to ensure proper follow-up and to keep others informed.
  • Familiarize other employees with their duties and the work environment.
  • Carry out as needed the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group as well as other related duties.

Job Requirements

  • Education or equivalent knowledge: College diploma (DEC) in television production and/or post-production techniques or any other relevant diploma.
  • Prior experience: Three years experience required to perform duties satisfactorily.

  • Theoretical and practical test.
  • Interview.
