Gulf Copper is currently seeking Carpenters for our Galveston location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

1. Erect install and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials.
2. Work from blueprints or instructions from supervisors carpenters first do the layoutmeasuring marking and arranging materialsin accordance with local building codes.
3. Cut and shape wood plastic fiberglass or drywall using hand and power tools such as chisels planes saws drills and sanders.
4. Join the materials with nails screws staples or adhesives.
5. Do a final check of the accuracy of their work with levels rules plumb bobs framing squares and surveying equipment and make any necessary adjustments.
6. Construct wooden forms for pouring concrete or erecting scaffolding

Required Education & Experience:

1. A high school graduate or holder of a GED preferred.
2. Trade and technical school training and/or employer-provided training preferred.
3. Industrial and/or marine carpentry experience:

• 1st Class: 3-5 years
• 2nd Class: 1-3 years

Working Conditions:

1. Regular exposure to all weather conditions especially hot humid and / or rainy weather combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
2. Open-air conditions such as noisy hot cold etc.
3. Prolonged standing climbing bending and kneeling often are necessary.
4. Must wear hearing eye and head protection.
5. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.
6. Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
7. Aboard ships both on and offshore.

Necessary Equipment Operation:

1. Power tools
2. Transit levels
3. Hand tools

Special Skills:

1. Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
2. Ability to read and interpret blueprints sketches drawings and technical manuals.
3. Perform basic mathematical functions.
4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
