JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Hydrotechnical Engineer (Water Resources Engineer) Reporting to the Plant Technical Support Manager - Hydrotechnical Engineering this position is responsible to provide technical advice and guidance on a variety of technical matters within designated area of responsibility for hydroelectric and thermal stations maintenance operations performance design and commissioning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead data collection assessments studies inspections investigation and design evaluations for various works associated with hydroelectric and thermal generating stations and associated facilities.
  • Provide advice on maintenance rehabilitation design and construction issues related to dams and other hydraulic structures associated with hydroelectric and thermal generating stations.
  • Plan organize and conduct hydraulic field studies to gather data on hydraulic characteristics of rivers reservoirs and dam spillways necessary for the continuous safe and efficient operation of hydroelectric and thermal generating stations.
  • Plan organize and execute hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and studies in support of OPGs operations and the dam safety program.
  • Participate in various technical and professional committees internal and external to OPG as subject matter expert.
  • Prepare present and implement procedures instructions project charters business case summaries plant condition assessments and technical reports.
  • Assist Supervisor in the administration of work projects and coach junior staff on processes.
  • Coordinate with Operations / Production Water Management and Dam Safety professionals across OPG to develop tools and practices to enhance water management at OPG.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering with major in Water Resources or Environmental Engineering.
  • Graduate Degree in Water Resources or Hydrotechnical Engineering is an asset.
  • Registered (in good standing) or eligible to be registered and licensed to practice as a Professional Engineer () in the Province of Ontario.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience as a Hydrotechnical Engineer primarily in the area of hydroelectric power generation and Dam Safety assessments.
  • Experience in collection management evaluation and interpretation of data from the natural and built environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting hydrotechnical assessments hydrologic modeling hydraulic modelling dam break analysis and consequence assessments.
  • Experience in acquisition processing and interpretation of hydraulic field data (flow water level bathymetry etc.) using different acoustic / Sonar tools/equipment and associated software.
  • Experience and knowledge in application of Hydrologic Hydraulic and GIS software and modeling tools (such as HEC Suite of Products 2D and 3D hydraulic models including Telemac and Flow3D ESRI suite of software).
  • In-depth knowledge pertaining to the assessment design and rehabilitation of various dams and hydraulic structures.
  • Experience with and understanding of OPGs Dam Safety Program and associated Standards and Procedures.
  • Experience with and understanding of Dam Safety Regulations and Industry Guidelines applicable to OPG facilities.
  • Understanding and Experience in application of Canadian Dam Association Dam Safety guidelines and technical bulletins.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to develop and deliver reports briefings project plans.
  • Good organizational and leadership skills and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices.
  • Have a strong interest in fast-paced challenging work environments where showing initiative and self motivation are assets.
  • Strong in understanding executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
  • Proven track record on delivering results.
  • Required travel up to 30% (including overnight) via road air boat etc.; with valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing.

The base salary range considers many factors including but not limited to experience education and training including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
