Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Program Integrity Auditor Trainee. Under directsupervision for a period not less than six months and not to exceed twelve months receives on-the-job trainingin performing complex technical financial and integrity reviews of LPAs MFT programs as to their compliance tothe Illinois Highway Code and department policies; gains knowledge of the MFT audit plans and procedures; andassists in preparing draft reports. Audits may be conducted on-site or throughout the state which may requirefrequent overnight stays and may be scheduled to accommodate officials whose regular employment may preclude meetings during normal working hours.

Essential Functions

  • Receives on-the-job training conducting on-site fiscal analysis and compliance audits related to the Local Public Agencies (LPA) Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) program.
  • Receives training on what constitutes appropriate documentation.
  • Accompanies higher level program integrity auditors in conducting the entrance conference to outline audit plans with the LPA and assists in preparing documentation for development of new and existing integrity analysis compliance verification and audit procedures.
  • Attends training classes provided by the Department and reviews available periodicals and publications pertaining to the audit profession.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires possession of a bachelors degree with coursework concentration in accounting or businessadministration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers elementary knowledge of program integrity reviewing theory principles and procedures.
  • Prefers elementary knowledge of the departments programs policies and regulations.
  • Prefers elementary knowledge of state government.

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid drivers license.
  • Ability to move or lift files and audit cases weighing approximately 25 - 30 pounds.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation.
