Job Summary

DLBA Naval Architects a division of Gibbs & Cox has an internship opening . As a member of a multidisciplinary team you will provide naval architecture support in the development of steel aluminum and composite (a) recreational vessels (b) commercial ship designs and (c) U.S. Government programs from 20 to 250 feet in length.

Primary Responsibilities

  • With appropriate mentorship evaluate and select standard engineering techniques procedures and criteria for design and modification of boats and craft.
  • With appropriate mentorship perform engineering calculationsby using first principles hand calculations and by applying existing design skills techniques and company procedures/tools
  • Work independently and/or as a team member to develop complete design definition.
  • Work may require a broad knowledge of precedents in naval architecture and an in-depth knowledge of principles and practices of related technologies. Design areas may include resistance and powering weight estimation stability evaluation structural design and seakeeping predictions.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Ability to obtain a Secret DoD security clearance
  • Currently enrolled in B.S. or M.S. degree program for Naval Architecture Marine Engineering or Ocean Engineering
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Excellent MS Office skills including Word PowerPoint and Excel
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard CAD software including AutoCAD and/or Rhino
  • Strong analytical skills communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internships in the field of naval architecture and marine engineering
  • Shipyard experience
  • Experience using hydrostatic software including GHS (General HydroStatics) and Orca
  • Experience using CFD software such as Orca CFD or Simerics
