As the Indigenous Relations Team Lead you will shape and lead Indigenous engagement strategies across major environmental and resource projects. Reporting to the VP of Indigenous and Stakeholder Engagement youll build and mentor a small but impactful team ensuring Indigenous voices are reflected at every stage of assessment permitting and project design.
Your success will be measured by how well you:
- Build trusted long-term relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Deliver high-quality engagement plans and consultation records that stand up to regulatory scrutiny.
- Lead your team to consistently meet project timelines budgets and quality expectations.
- Strengthen internal understanding of Indigenous perspectives across multidisciplinary teams.
What Youll Accomplish
- Lead and mentor a team of 24 Indigenous Engagement and Permitting Coordinators ensuring collaboration and growth.
- Develop and execute engagement strategies aligned with Indigenous rights community priorities and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate directly with Indigenous Nations to support Traditional Land Use and Indigenous Knowledge studies and ensure findings are accurately reflected in project assessments.
- Assess project impacts on Indigenous rights and interests and design culturally appropriate mitigation and monitoring programs.
- Deliver polished reports and engagement summaries that inform decision-makers and regulators.
- Stay ahead of legislative and policy changes advising internal teams and clients on evolving best practices.
- Support business growth by contributing to work plans proposals and cost estimates for new initiatives.
What You Bring
- 10 years of experience in environmental assessment and leading Indigenous engagement within the natural resource sector.
- Proven success collaborating with Indigenous governments proponents and regulators on complex projects.
- Deep understanding of federal and provincial impact assessment frameworks including CEAA 2012 (or successor legislation).
- Awareness of Indigenous governance structures duty to consult and reconciliation frameworks.
- Strong writing facilitation and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead meetings and represent projects with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
- Experience with mining oil & gas renewable energy or major infrastructure projects is a strong asset.
- Analytical strength in reviewing technical and cultural impact data.
- A valid drivers license and willingness to travel within Canada as needed.
